COD - Tester

The Analyst Model 975MP, Tube Adapter Model 975-TA,COD Reactor

Orbeco-Hellige’s micro-COD Method, when performed with The Analyst or The Mini Analyst, offers low-cost, simple Chemical Oxygen Demand testing fully compatible with USEPA 410.4 and Standard Methods 5220

Uses convenient 16mm diameter screw-cap tubes containing a specific oxidizing agent. The tubes, containing reagents and samples, are heated with a convenient COD reactor (see below) at 150°C for 2 hours (or less under certain conditions) and then are inserted into the Analyst or the Mini Analyst for a direct test reading.

The 2 hour time period is mandatory for EPA approved methods, but COD readings for non-reporting purposes may be obtained in as little as 15 minutes for readily oxidized wastes.

The Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) test is widely used as a measure of organic cantamination by determing the quantity of oxygen required for oxidation of reduced species including organic matter, in a water sample using a specific oxidizing agent, temperature and time reduction. COD testing is more reliable and is preferred to BOD testing as test results are more reproducible and are ready in two hours (or less) rather than 5 days. In addition, COD testing is a better indicator of organic pollutants in industrial wastewater containing cyanides and heavy metals. COD testing affords rapid response to changing conditions before critical problems develop.
